Automated adhesive dispensing at Kepler Labs with a Fairino FR5 cobot

Kepler Labs, a Belgian manufacturer of Nixie-tube design clocks, applied its adhesives by hand. Today a Fairino FR5 cobot does it: the part stays in its fixture and the cobot carries the dispensing head along the glue path, with the dispensing tooling built by Kepler Labs themselves.

How the setup works

  • The part is fixed in place; the FR5 moves the dispensing head along the taught path
  • Application speed and material flow are controlled by the cobot, so the bead stays the same from the first part to the last
  • After dispensing, the cobot wipes the nozzle clean automatically, so the next bead starts clean without an operator stepping in
  • Custom dispensing tooling, designed and built by Kepler Labs, mounts straight onto the FR5
  • Operators are freed from repetitive manual dispensing work

Waarom dit belangrijk is

Manual glue application depends on who is holding the nozzle that day. Moving it to a cobot makes the process stable and repeatable, which is exactly what matters for adhesive quality.

Veelgestelde vragen

Which cobot does the adhesive dispensing at Kepler Labs?

A Fairino FR5 collaborative robot, with 5 kg payload, 922 mm reach and ±0.02 mm repeatability.

Does the cobot move the part or the dispensing head?

The part stays fixed in its holder and the FR5 carries the dispensing head along the glue path.

How does automating dispensing improve consistency?

Application speed and material flow are controlled by the cobot instead of by hand, so the bead is the same on every part. The cobot also wipes the nozzle clean automatically between cycles, which keeps the process stable without an operator stepping in.

Who built the dispensing tooling?

Kepler Labs designed and built the dispensing tooling themselves and mounted it on the Fairino FR5, which is possible because the cobot is open to third-party tooling.

Can a cobot handle other dispensing jobs, like sealing or gluing?

Yes. The same principle works for gluing, sealing and other bead-following applications: teach the path once and the cobot repeats it at a constant speed. Bring your part to our demo room for a proof of concept.
