Fairino FR3 Series Overview | FR3 vs FR3-C vs FR3-WMS vs FR3-WML

Fairino FR3 Series – Overview of FR3, FR3-C, FR3-WMS and FR3-WML Collaborative Robots
The Fairino FR3 series is a family of 6-axis industrial collaborative robots (cobots) with a nominal payload of 3 kg. All FR3 models are designed for industrial automation applications requiring compact integration, precision motion control and flexible deployment.
Within the FR3 series, four primary configurations are available:
Each model is based on the same 6-degree-of-freedom robotic architecture but differs in reach, wrist rotation range, mechanical configuration and power consumption.
This page explains the technical differences between the FR3 variants and helps determine which configuration best fits a specific automation requirement.
Common Platform Characteristics of the FR3 Series
All FR3 models share the following core characteristics:
Payload: 3 kg
Degrees of freedom: 6 rotating joints
Typical TCP speed: 1 m/s
Industrial collaborative robot architecture
Aluminium and steel construction
Operating temperature: 0–45°C
Operating humidity: 90% RH (non-condensing)
The shared platform ensures consistent programming logic, integration approach and mechanical reliability across the entire FR3 range.
Fairino FR3 – Standard Configuration
The Fairino FR3 is the standard model within the FR3 series.
Reach: 622 mm
Pose repeatability: ±0.02 mm
Axis 6 rotation: ±175°
Typical average power: 220 W
Weight: approximately 15 kg
IP classification: IP54 (IP65 optional)
The standard FR3 configuration is suitable for general-purpose industrial automation tasks such as:
- Pick and place
- Light assembly
- Machine tending
- Component handling
It offers high positional precision and balanced motion performance within a compact working envelope.
Fairino FR3-C – Compact and Lightweight Variant
The Fairino FR3-C maintains the same 3 kg payload and 622 mm reach as the standard FR3 but introduces modifications aimed at compact integration.
Key differences compared to FR3:
Wrist2 rotation: 0°–355° (instead of ±175°)
Weight: approximately 10 kg
Footprint: 125 mm
Pose repeatability: ±0.05 mm
Typical average power: 200 W
The FR3-C is optimized for applications where:
- Lower total robot weight is required
- Compact mounting is critical
- Extended articulation on Wrist2 improves tool positioning
This configuration is particularly suited for space-constrained automation cells and mobile robotic systems.
Fairino FR3-WMS – Extended Axis 6 Rotation with Reduced Power Consumption
The Fairino FR3-WMS retains the standard 622 mm reach and ±0.02 mm repeatability of the FR3 but introduces extended wrist rotation and lower energy consumption.
Key differences compared to FR3:
Axis 6 rotation: ±360°
Typical average power: 90 W
Typical peak power: 130 W
Weight: approximately 10.5 kg
The ±360° rotation on Axis 6 allows:
- Increased end-effector rotational freedom
- Reduced rotational constraints
- Improved suitability for circular or tubular applications
The significantly lower power consumption makes the FR3-WMS advantageous in:
- Energy-sensitive production environments
- Mobile or battery-supported systems
- Applications where thermal load reduction is beneficial
Fairino FR3-WML – Extended Reach and Full Axis 6 Rotation
The Fairino FR3-WML expands the working envelope of the FR3 platform.
Reach: 922 mm (instead of 622 mm)
Axis 6 rotation: ±360°
Pose repeatability: ±0.05 mm
Weight: approximately 11.25 kg
Typical average power: 140 W
The extended 922 mm reach provides:
- Larger accessible workspace
- Improved machine access
- Increased coverage within automation cells
Combined with ±360° rotation on Axis 6, the FR3-WML is suitable for applications requiring both extended spatial coverage and enhanced rotational flexibility.
Technical Comparison Summary
Standard FR3: balanced configuration with high repeatability and standard wrist limits
FR3-C: lighter and more compact, with extended Wrist2 articulation
FR3-WMS: extended Axis 6 rotation with significantly reduced power consumption
FR3-WML: extended reach combined with ±360° Axis 6 rotation
Each variant addresses a specific mechanical or integration requirement rather than altering the payload capacity.
Choosing the Right FR3 Variant
Selection of the appropriate FR3 model depends on:
- Required working radius
- Required rotational freedom on Wrist2 or Axis 6
- Energy consumption constraints
- Installation weight limitations
- Required repeatability level
For compact applications with minimal reach requirements, the FR3 or FR3-C may be sufficient.
For applications requiring full wrist rotation, the FR3-WMS or FR3-WML provides ±360° rotational capability.
For extended workspace coverage, the FR3-WML is the only variant with 922 mm reach.
All four variants are available in Europe via TMC Robotics, with the standard FR3 starting at €4,600 excl. VAT including controller and license-free software. Not sure which variant fits your cell? Request a quotation or book a demo in our 400 m² experience center in Ypres, Belgium.
