Inline post-moulding assembly automation with a Fairino FR5 cobot

This TMC Robotics solution automates the assembly of injection-moulded plastic parts right after moulding. A tray of moulded parts comes straight from the moulding machine onto a table via a standard linear gantry, while a second component is supplied from a vibratory bowl feeder. A Fairino FR5 cobot fitted with custom tooling picks several of the second parts at once and assembles them onto the moulded parts; the finished assemblies are then removed so the next tray can be processed.

  • Moulded tray fed in by a standard linear gantry (off-the-shelf)
  • Second component supplied from a vibratory bowl feeder
  • Custom end-of-arm tooling handles multiple parts per pick
  • Inline assembly = higher output, less manual work, consistent quality

Frequently asked questions

Which cobot performs the assembly?

A Fairino FR5 collaborative robot fitted with custom end-of-arm tooling.

How are the parts supplied to the cell?

A tray of moulded parts comes directly from the injection-moulding machine via a standard linear gantry, and a second component is fed from a vibratory bowl feeder.

What does the custom tooling do?

It lets the FR5 pick several of the second parts at once and assemble them onto the moulded parts in one motion.

What happens after assembly?

The finished assemblies are removed from the table so the next tray of moulded parts can be processed.

What are the benefits of inline post-moulding assembly?

Assembly is integrated into moulding, so there is less manual handling, higher output and more consistent quality — without a separate downstream station.
