Why a 5/2 valve?
A 5/2 valve has two air outputs. When it switches, air goes to one side and the other side vents. So your gripper is pushed open and pulled closed by air, both ways, instead of relying on a spring. Same story for the tool changer: one line locks it, the other unlocks it. That's exactly what double acting grippers and our tool changer need.
The valve is monostable. It has one coil and a spring return. As long as the output is on, it holds the switched position. When the signal drops, it falls back to its rest position. Tip: connect the hoses so that rest position is the safe one for your cell. For a gripper that's usually closed, for the tool changer that's locked.
Wiring and hoses
You get one Murr M8 switch cable with loose wire ends. Wire it into a digital output on the cobot controller or your PLC and you switch the valve straight from your program. The 3 m dual air hose (blue and black, 6 mm) runs from the two valve outputs to the tool. Everything ships loose, not prewired, so you route the cable and hose the way it suits your robot and tooling.
